Three in One Preview

My creation started out with this pattern...I had already made this jacket pattern once before (seen here) and it quickly became one of my favorite jackets.
First I shortened the skirt portion of the pattern and went to work.  I had the Jacket sewn together in two pieces (Top and Skirt), and I realized that I could easily make it so that the skirt could zip off the jacket for two different looks.  In order to do that I would need to lengthen the top part of the jacket somehow to make it the right length, and to hide the zipper that would be used to attach the two pieces. (I ended up having to use two zippers and meet them in the middle back)

With-out Skirt

I ended up making a wide ruffle using a long piece of fabric and folded in in half.

The Zipper

I then realized that I could likely work some magic to turn the skirt part into an actual skirt, so with a few carefully places hooks & eyes, and a snap it all came together!

The Skirt

The skirt is definatly mini, but I'm sure I can figure an appropriate way to wear it!

The fabric I used for this jacket is a very heavy satin...the colour is more mustard than it appears in these pictures.

holy smokes you are amazingly creative.. this jacket and skirt combo are so cute!! Great job!! I used to sew alot but then got more and more busy with my training.
By the way, I grew up in the kootenays as well-- love it there- I moved about 13 years ago... miss the snow!!

What a great post!

The design is beautiful and I just decided to learn how to sew. This is really inspirational.

That is beautiful! I love the yellow shade. That yellow skirt would quickly become a favorite piece in my wardrobe.

Now I'm wishing I knew how to sew more than missing buttons and hem things.

So gorgeous! I am in awe. I am also feeling terribly guilty that I have yet to figure out how to use my own sewing machine. You should probably stop being so awesome, so that I don't have to feel back about myself anymore.
