Here is the first instalment of "Fashionable Mama". I am absolutely loving to read everyone’s answers to these questions and it definitely makes me feel like I know the person “behind” the blog a lot better after seeing their responses. So today I am introducing you to the fabulous Daphne from Fashion Confessions of a Mommy.
# of Kids and Ages:
2, Son 3+ years, Daughter almost 2 yrs.
A brief description of your blog:
A stay home mom who loves fashion and is determined to bring fashion into a life super busy with kid activities. I include the activities I did each day so readers/followers can see what I did in the outfits I am posting about. That way I can stay true to being a mommy blogger who really does wear these outfits while doing the most kid related stuff imaginable each day.
Did you start "fashion blogging" before or after you had kids?: After
Do you feel that your style changed after you had kids? If yes, how? If no, why not?: Yes.
After I had kids and stopped working I started to dress more and more in sweats and yoga pants. My clothes started becoming foreign in my closet. I lost the sense of what I should be shopping for. I would look at clothes that are too dressy and too unrealistic to wear with kids, so I would buy more sweat sets and cuter sneakers instead. So, I started my blog as a challenge to myself to dress up everyday. It has evolved to so much more...
What do you think is the biggest misconception of being a mother?:
That we should dress and look practical and motherly.
What do you think is the biggest misconception of being a "fashion blogger"?:
That it is for young, slim and pretty girls only.
What is something you enjoy doing that is completely unrelated to your children and fashion blogging?:
Many things. Reading a good book in a comfy setting, meeting my long time group of girlfriends for a dinner and drinks, going to the movies, shopping.
How would you describe your personal style?:
I don't think I have a set style. I like to follow trends that suit my body and taste. I am mostly drawn to girly looks with lace and tulle. I am always looking for ways to re-use the items in my closet to fit current trends, so I might try looks that are not exactly my style if I can make new outfits with my existing clothes. I love taking risks and looking different.
What are some of your favourite current fashion trends?:
50s looking skirts (although not sure if they would look good on me), military, statement jewelry, lace, fur and animal prints.
And your least favorite?:
simple, minimal and neutral looks.
What do you think is the key element to balancing “style” with function for mothers?:
Being realistic about your lifestyle and your activities. Knowing when a certain shoe or cut or length of skirt simply won't work when running, bending down and picking up little kids and going to playgrounds, parks, playdates etc...
Any other random thoughts or interesting things about you that you would like to share?:
I simply don't care if I am always the most dressed mommy in any group activity I go to. I don't care if I stand out because I do not wear the usual expected blend outfits all the other mother's do. I like to look good and attractive but I honestly forget what I have on once I am on the go. This makes me act totally myself playing and enjoying my kids regardless of some trendy cutting edge look I happen to be supporting that day. I truly enjoy clothes and putting together outfits. I am so happy to have a network of bloggers who feel the same way and make me feel I am not the only one.
