I seriously think I want to head "across the pond" so I can steal everything from todays Fashionable Mama's Closet!!
# of Kids and Ages:
1 daughter, Woody, 10 on the 20th of January!
A brief description of your blog:
A London gal's personal style blog accented with shoes, shoes and more shoes. It also charts the start up of my own little design label Moshi Lashi launching in September 2011!
Did you start "fashion blogging" before or after you had kids?:
I started blogging way after having my daughter. I used to visit a particular style blog for yonks and was just happy to be a reader but after years of listening to people telling me how distinctive and defined my own personal style is, I finally bit the bullet. It also helped that my hubby is an amazing photographer!
Do you feel that your style changed after you had kids? If yes, how? If no, why not?:
I had my daughter at 20 so yes, my style has most definitely changed over the years as I have got older. My look going into motherhood had a Camden-esque / military / androgynous vibe to it. Once I had my daughter I started getting more in touch with the Woman in me so I began wearing dresses more and discovered a real love for colour, both elements that still feature heavily in my own personal styling today. I went back to school soon after having my daughter to finish my degree and then straight into work - working in the arts as a performer and facilitator means that I have never had to adopt a corporate uniform making it easy to incorporate new styling directions into my daily look without question of my professionalism.
What do you think is the biggest misconception of being a mother?:
That once you become a Mom you stop having a social life or desiring one!
What do you think is the biggest misconception of being a "fashion blogger"?:
That we all want to be full time bloggers!
What is something you enjoy doing that is completely unrelated to your children and fashion blogging?:
Chilling with my hubby is the first thing that pops to mind but I also love going to the theatre and seeing new plays even when it is under the guise of work!
How would you describe your personal style?:
Living in the city is a huge influence on my style and I channel that urban edge to create a varied / quirky / glam / colourful / original / mash-up
What are some of your favourite current fashion trends?:
I am totally in love with the floral print trend for SS2011 a la Erderm & Dior especially when applied to footwear. I bought a stunning pair of floral heels that you would think was Kirkwood upon first sighting but is actually by Rare that I am going to be living in once the weather gets warmer.
And your least favourite?:
I would say the use of Actors on front covers of magazines as opposed to models but maybe I am just jealous that it is not me!
What do you think is the key element to balancing “style” with function for mothers?:
I think mothers are more pushed for time so we don't need outfits that take an age to put on or together. Our looks also need to be versatile; taking us from the school run, to work and on to evening drinks.
Any other random thoughts or interesting things about you that you would like to share?:
I will share some in the spirit of fellowship :)
- I can sing SADE songs remarkably well
- I have been known to buy an item of clothing for Woody, my daughter, and then look for it in the biggest available size for myself much to her chagrin.
- The last thing I learnt from a book is that Hans Zimmer, arguably one of the finest living film composers, was once a member of Buggles famous for having the very first music video aired on MTV which was 'Video killed the Radio-star'!
