Canadian Cutie: Melissa (Melrose)

Once again it's time to feature another Canadian Cutie!  Not only does Melrose share her fashion with us on her blog, but she's also shares her spending habits as well.  The reason I'm mentioning this is because I think it's great when young people are financially responsible, and unfortunatly there are a lot of young girls who feel pressured into spending WAY TOO MUCH money on clothes!!  Can you tell that my Dad is a financial advisor?

Name:

Melissa Rose (MelRose… get it?! Hah, i like to think i'm clever.)

Location:

Ottawa, ON

Blog name:

A brief description of your blog:

I mainly post outfit photos, but throw in some random rants, a recipe or two, and anything else that tickles my fancy at the time!

How long have you been blogging, and what made you start?:

I’ve been blogging for just over a year now. I blog-stalked for about 3 months before starting and decided I wanted to get in on the action!

How would you describe your personal style?:

I like to think of myself as “classic.” I LOVE staples like pencil skirts, button down blouses, cardigans, and Audrey Hepburn-esque cigarette pants, but every now and then I’m drawn to a decidedly “rock and roll” or “bohemian” piece.

Do you feel that you can relate better to fashion bloggers living in Canada? Or is there no difference?:

Besides the weather, (darn you people in your shorts & sundresses all year long!) I don’t think there is much of a difference. I guess we are fortunate enough to actually experience all four seasons and therefore the trends and styles that go with them too.

What are some of your favourite Canadian (only found in Canada) stores?:

I’ve worked for both Dynamite and Smart Set before and have amassed a HUGE collection of their items which get their fair share of wear.

I’ve also recently discovered a love of Jacob. Timeless, classic pieces, and a lot are made right here in Canada!

What store do you wish would open up in Canada?:

In Ottawa specifically I would love an H&M. I feel like we’re the only major city without one still!

I’d also love to see a Loft or J. Crew, I can’t help but fall for some of their items, but shipping costs are the devil!

Do you have any favourite Canadian designers/fashion brands?:

I was lucky enough to attend Ottawa Fashion Week in the fall and discovered some wonderful designers such as Rachel Sin, Yola Couture and Adrian Wu. They were all FABULOUS!

Who would you consider a true Canadian Fashion Icon?:

I love Rachel McAdams. Definitely a classic beauty.

Finish these sentences:

A person with true style is someone who...:

Keeps things interesting all while remaining true to who they are, and doesn’t just jump on the latest trends because everyone else is doing it.

My greatest fashion inspirations come from...

Old Hollywood. At least I’d like to think so!

The most cliché Canadian thing I enjoy/have ever done is....

Stuffed my face with beavertails while skating the Rideau Canal.

Aside from fashion blogging what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?:

I’m a reality TV junkie. You name it, I’ve seen it. I try to balance out my sedimentary lifestyle with trips to the gym though!

I also randomly sew and bake. Not cook though, just bake - another reason why the gym is a requirement!

Do you have any other random thoughts or interesting things you would like to share about yourself?

I LOVE discovering new blogs! My blogroll is HUUUGE! Leave a tidbit about yours on mine, and I’ll be sure to pay you a visit!

Thanks Melissa for answering these questions!!

Want to be my next Canadian Cutie?  Or Fashionable Mama?
