Guest Post: Think Spring, Think Color!

This post was originally meant to be posted while I'm away in Arizona, but I came down with the flu this week and have taken a few days off from getting dressed.  I'm pretty sure no one wanted to see pictures of me snuggling up on the couch in my pj's using Vylas teddy bear as my pillow!!

I figured that I would publish this post ahead of time because it works perfectly with a DIY project I plan on publishing in the next few days.  (As long as I can drag my behind off the couch long enough to type out the instructions)

Thank you Colleen and Julia for allowing me to post this ahead of schedule!!

Hello! We're Colleen and Julia of the Portland, Oregon-based Squirrel and Starling fashion blog and are delighted to help fill in as guest bloggers while Natasha is away. Today, we wanted to share with you how we're translating the spring trends (well, one in particular).

Vogue Paris Collections Issue No. 11 (Spring-Summer 2011) Cover. Published by Conde Nast. Cover Photo Credits: Gorunway.

What impressed us most about the Spring/Summer 2011 runway shows were the gorgeous, bright, saturated colors that popped up here and there. What with the dreary, rainy, and cold weather we've been experiencing this winter, we can't wait to think summer and rock bright colors! The colors most on display were orange, yellow, fuchsia, and turquoise (according to our style go-to resource, Vogue Paris). We particularly enjoyed the looks by Raf Simons at Jil Sander, and a pair of color-blocking shoes at Fendi.

While our budget doesn't allow us to run out and buy all the Jil Sander pieces that have us salivating, we still want to embrace these sunny colors, so how will we do it?
An inexpensive way to tap into the trend is to swap out your neutral eye liner, lip color, or nail lacquer for one that packs a pop of color! Another less-risky way (if you're not comfortable with head-to-toe color) to sport bright colors this spring is to accessorize with them. Try a handbag, tights, shoes, or jewelry in bold colors. For the rather daring amongst us, pick out a top or bottom in these vivid hues, or concoct your own head-to-toe look.
We'll follow Jil Sander's lead and pair a neutral top with colorful shorts or skirts (done well at J.Crew) and grab a bright clutch or have our nails painted turquoise. How will you do color this spring? We'd love to hear your ideas. Until spring is upon us, here are some favorite pieces and some inspirational images.
