Fashionable Mama: Brittney

It's time to showcase another Fashionable Mama.  You absolutely must check out all of Brittneys crazy (awesome) poses!!

# of Kids and Ages:

Three kids, ages 6,4, and 2

Blog Name:

A brief description of your blog:

Daily modest outfit blog, focusing on wearing what we own

Did you start "fashion blogging" before or after you had kids?:

After (just started my blog in December 2010)

Do you feel that your style changed after you had kids? If yes, how? If no, why not?:

Not really. Actually, maybe. What first changed was my body (my proportions changed after each kid), and I didn't have money to replace my entire wardrobe 3 times, so I started to care less and less what I wore because I pretty much always looked, well, bad. So. Yeah, I guess my style did change as my workable wardrobe shrunk. Too easy to just throw on jeans and a tee, since getting "dressed" didn't look that great anyway.

What do you think is the biggest misconception of being a mother?:

Honestly? I think this is a hard question to generalize--I think everyone has their own misconceptions about being a mother, and everyone's a different type of mother. For me, it was that there was a "right way" to be a mom, and I was constantly on the search for that...until I realized (and, to be honest, am still realizing) that there's no one way to be a good parent. We're all different, and our kids are all different, and it's figuring out what works for ourselves and our kids that constitutes the "right" path of parenthood. SUCH a liberating realization.

What do you think is the biggest misconception of being a "fashion blogger"?:

That clothes make up my world and my thoughts. Not even close to being true for the life that goes on after I get dressed each day.

What is something you enjoy doing that is completely unrelated to your children and fashion blogging?:

Jogging/long-distance races. I've run some marathons and even an ultra-marathon. You really get to know yourself, inside and out, when it's just you, your MP3, and 20+ miles to travel.

How would you describe your personal style?:

Geesh. I wish I knew; I've been trying to pin it down, but I'm struggling...I'm drawn to classic looks, simplicity with a twist or a pop, and I think that's what I most try to emulate. I don't think I'm there yet, though...

What are some of your favourite current fashion trends?:

Flared jeans, pattern mixing. Oooh, and a maxi dress. Gets me every time.
And your least favourite?:

Probably minis.

What do you think is the key element to balancing "style" with function for mothers?:

The same key for balancing everything in life--figure out what you like, what works for you, and embrace it. For me, I wear more pencil skirts than the average stay-at-home mother, but it's because I like them, and I've figured out that they work for many of my days. So no biggie. But for others, wearing a pencil skirt with a 2-year-old might be like a death sentence. It's all an individual balance, which is a beautiful thing.

Any other random thoughts or interesting things about you that you would like to share?:

I talk too much. And I'm a Capricorn. With a very significant sweet tooth.

Thank you Brittney for answering these questions!
