A Blank Canvas

Blazer- Winners
Top- Suzy Shier
Shorts- BCBG
Shoes- Aldo

It's not very often that I wear a plain t-shirt, but with some outfits it creates the perfect blank canvas.

It's also not very often that I wear my hair up, which is very much due to the fact that my hair is crazy, and has wings that appear when pulled back...ugh!  Thank goodness for hair spray and bobby pins.

After I bought this blazer I had the hardest time finding things to wear with it...I thought it was too long....but with these shorts it's the perfect length...I love having just a bit of hem peeking out from underneath.

When Life Hands You Lemons...Sew Something Pretty!

Blouse, Skirt & Bracelets- Self Made
Shoes- Ninewest

Lately it seems like all my outfits are mostly "self-made"....but when you live so far from good shopping, and you have a very large stash of fabric that is bound to happen eventually.

Most of the clothing pieces I've been making recently are easy projects (under an hr to construct), so quite often I'll whip something up while Vyla is down for a nap.

Part of the reason I've been sewing so much is because I've had so much bright fabric in my collection forever, and finally the fashion magazines/blogs are giving me so many good ideas!

PS. Anyone want DIY instructions for some of these bracelets?  The bottom one is from Honestly WTFs friendship bracelet tutorial.

Crazy Weather

Dress & Belt- Zara
Tights- Ardenes
Boots- Winners

The day I wore this outfit it was not this nice fact it was raining so badly that all the rivers in the area flooded, roads were washed away, there were mudslides, and many power outages.  I had to wait a few days for the weather to get nice enough so that I could take my outfit pictures outside.

Due to the crazy weather my hubbys been working all sorts of crazy hours to fix all the damage to the power lines (BC Hydro)....I can't wait for the crazyness to be over so I can have my hubby back!

Oh ya...and about this outfit...usually I stick to neutral tones when I wear this dress, but I decided it was time to play with some of the bright colours in it!

Dress- Gift from Bri
Vest- Forever 21
Necklace- Free with a different dress
Shoes- Aldo

I love the look of outfits that are head to toe pastels, but I rarely wear them myself.

That is likely because my love of brights trumps all other colour combinations.  For that reason I remind myself to put on my pastels every now and then.

Katies "My Five": Favourite Senses

The feeling of warm water on cold hands

The sound of a choir (especially a children's choir)

The look on parents faces when they leave the hospital for the first time with their new baby

The taste of chocolate – I could live off chocolate (I'm eating chocolate as I write this)

The smell that fills the air right before it rains

Katie is the awesome lady behind the website Our Pink Thoughts, an inspirational site that features stories on strong Canadian women written by Canadian women.  Katie lives in Ontario with her hubby (who also happens to be my older brother) and their two handsome sons.

I cannot wait to seem them all in two weeks time!!

The Right Amount of Sparkle

Top- Self Made
Belt- Target
Pants- Self Made, then DIYed
Shoes- BCBG

If I had worn this exact same outfit with plain black pants I would have deemed it "not blogworthy"...but with the added sequined tuxedo stripe this outfit was brought up to the next level!

If you love these pants as much as I do you absolutely must DIY your own!!

Sequined Tuxedo Stripe Pants DIY

A few months ago I had noticed some cropped pants in a magazine that had a stripe of sequins down each leg, I fell instantly in love.  I knew that it would be so easy to DIY my own, so when I finally managed to get to the City and buy some sequined trim (which just happened to be on major sale) I was ready to go!

Materials Needed
-Sequin Trim (enough for two leg lengths)
-Thread to Match
-Hand sewing needle

1. Lay your pants out so one side seam is facing up.  Fold under the top edge of the trim and pin it down to your pants on top of the side seam just below the waist band.  Lay out the rest of the sequin trip all the way down the side seam until you reach the hem, pin well.  Cut the trim so it's about 1cm (3/8") longer than the pants, fold the extra trim over the bottom and pin down.

2.  Thread your needle and begin hand sewing.  I started at the top of the pants and worked my way down one edge of the sequins, and then went around and up the other side hand sewing the trim down along all 4 edges.

I think I'm in love!  Next up I'm sequin striping some beige pants (with gold), and then some jeans!

Find me on:

Don't forget to share the love using the buttons below :)

Shades of Green

Dress- Self Made
Vest- Zara
Shoes- Ninewest
Lipstick- L'Oreal Infalliable "Everlasting Plum"

All I can think about when I look at these pictures it how much I wish I had actually done my hair!

This may seem very strange, but so often I will choose my outfit around my hair...if I'm having a good hair day I'll dress up a little bit more...and if I have messy hair happening I'll usually dress down to accommodate it.  I obviously didn't dress according to my hair this time...if I had I would be wearing jeans and flats!

Blazer- Suzy Shier
Blouse- Self Made
Skirt- Self Made
Shoes- Ninewest
LipStick- Rimmel Lasting Finish "In Vogue"

Some things I've been obsessed with lately (as evident in this outfit):
-Bright Prints
-Handkerchief Hems on Tops
-Bright Bold Lips
-Statement Necklaces
-Colour Blocking
-Neutral Heels

This length of skirt is something I haven't worn in awhile...I don't know if I love it or hate it.  What's your thoughts on the "midi" skirt?

In College one of my required courses was "Clothing Selection".  In that course we learned the most flattering ways to dress our own bodies and our clients (along with other very important things).  One thing I learned in that class was where the hem of a skirt/dress should hit....and I can tell you for sure that mid-calf is not the hot spot!   Thank goodness I have chicken legs, so it isn't super important that I follow that rule, but I can promise you one thing, I will never wear this skirt with flats (unless I decide to try for the bag lady look)!

5.  An excuse to eat ice cream every night.

What are you looking forward to this summer?

All That Sparkles

Blouse- Ross
Sequin Tank- TJ Maxx
Belt- Target
Jeans- Gap
Shoes- Aldo

I don't know why I hadn't thought to wear my blouse like this sooner...I'm totally loving how it drapes around my belt!

I wore this last night hoping the sparkles would help the Canucks win the Stanley Cup....unfortunately that didn't work out so well.  At least I had something shiny (although a trophy  would have been much better) to keep me happy...perhaps the people in  downtown Vancouver wouldn't have rioted had they been wearing their sparkles!  I have to say I'm more dissapointed in the rioters than losing the cup.

Dressing for ME!

Dress- H&M
Belt- Zara
Shoes- Sears

I was watching "What Not to Wear" yesterday, and the lady being made over mentioned that her boyfriend was always wishing that she would dress more girly.

I had to laugh a little.

As I was getting ready to leave the house in this outfit my hubby said, "you do realize that we're just going to town to watch some chainsaw carvings."

I replied, "I know, that's why I'm wearing flats".

He said, "well why don't you just wear shorts or something?"

The moral of the story?  Don't bother wasting your time trying to keep your man happy...haha!

OK maybe that's not totally true...I've just learned to stop dressing for men, and start dressing for me!

Lace & Function over Fashion

Top- Winners
Skirt- Self Made
Shoes- Aldo

I had so many different ideas of what to wear for the Lace edition of idea included a leather pencil skirt, another a bright yellow skirt...but somehow I ended up wearing this.  I really wish I could have worn one of the other ideas I had in my head, but unfortunately I had to think of function over fashion.

Did you ever see the DIY project I posted for copying this shirt?  It's absolutely perfect for summer!
