Lately I've been going a little crazy (well, crazy for me) cleaning and organizing things in our house. One of the larger projects was reorganizing my sewing/crafting room. Of course there's still a lot more work to be done, but one thing I'm very excited about is my new way to keep track of all my fabric and my design ideas for those fabrics.
I created and printed off a spreadsheet that allows me to attach a piece of fabric and then list off some information about each swatch and jot down my design ideas for each one. I've placed each sheet into a page protector that I put into a small binder. I am going to use page dividers to separate different colours and prints.
So often I buy fabric with a particular project in mind, but by the time I actually get around to using the fabric I end up making something completely different. This spreadsheet will allow me to write down all my ideas for each fabric so that over time I don't forget. It will also make matching notions a lot easier at the fabric store because I can just take the sheet of paper with the fabric swatch on it (or my whole book full of fabric swatches) with me instead of a bag full of fabric.
If you would like a copy of my spread sheet you can download it here.
Keep in mind that I had trouble printing it straight from my spreadsheet program. I copy and pasted it over to my word program and then changed the page set up so that all the margins and headers were as small as possible. Feel free to email me if you are having trouble downloading the file.
