My Next Project: Sewing Leather Pants

It's no secret that I'm in love with leather...I've been dreaming about leather pants, leather skirts, leather shorts, and leather tops for awhile now...and a few days ago I finally purchased some leather to make myself a pair of Balmain inspired pants!
I paid $100 for the hide (20 sq. ft...it was on sale!), which should be enough leather to make 2 pairs of pants...this is fantastic considering that these Balmain pants cost $3600!
A few things to keep in mind if you plan on sewing yourself some leather pants:
-Choose a pattern with lots of seams because leather is an irregular shape and you will waste less leather if you can piece it together. (I'm going to draft my own pattern)
-Make sure you sew with a needle intended for sewing leather.
-Use a walking foot on your sewing machine (or put a piece of tape on your presser foot) to keep the leather from stretching and puckering as you sew.
-Sew a "muslin" (test copy) of the pattern you intend to make first so that you don't need to make any alterations to your leather pants (stitch holes will show wherever you've stitch ripped on leather).

Tips for sewing leather pants

I can't wait to get my leather in the mail next week so I can get started sewing these pants!  If you follow me on instagram I'll be sure to document the process there!
I think I want some yellow leather while I'm at is so I can make this pair too!
